AMERICANA ENTRANCE
(U.S.S. HENRIETTA)

(1973 - 1995)

The Americana Gate

Even though the Americana Gate is still standing, it has not been used fully since 1995 when Worlds of Fun removed the trams. The Americana Gate was not only the main entrance to Worlds Of Fun . . . it was like the Heart of WOF. It was based strongly on a carnival theme and after you passed under the 50 or so diffrent international flags flapping in the breeze, you would cross over the U.S.S. Henrietta which is still standing. The U.S.S Henrietta appeared as a main set in "Around The World In Eighty Days" or the book turned movie that The Deck of the U.S.S. HenriettaWorlds Of Fun was based on. (You should see this its a Great Movie). Here you and your group might have their picture taken by Sneak Peeks. You could come back later and buy your picture from entering Worlds Of Fun at the U.S.S Henrietta. This still exists to a point at the Scandinavian Gate. In 1973, the Americana Gate was not just one entrance like it was in its later years. Originally there was a seperate entrance and exit. If you look hard enough you can see the light pole that is stranded alone on one side of the deck. This was part of the discarded double entrance. When Cedar Fair came along and bought Worlds Of Fun they discontinued the trams which caused the closing of the Americana Gate because it was just to far to walk. However, during 1996 and partially 1997 the Americana gate was open sometimes on Saturdays and holidays to assist with the high number of guests. In 1998 it has been completly closed down and will probably be torn down at the end of this season. This magical part of Worlds of Fun will be missed by many.
