FURY OF THE NILE

(1984 - PRESENT)

Fury of the Nile

GENERAL INFORMATION

This ride is one of Worlds of Fun's most popular. Fury of the Nile is Fury of the Nilejust what the name says. Up to six riders sit in a large orange raft and experience the Fury of the Nile river in WOF's African Section. Riders drift down 1,800 feet of rapids, geysers, and waterfalls for a full four and a half minutes, Worlds of Fun's longest ride! If that isn't enough, Fury of the Nile is composed of 825,000 gallons of green Water. (Yes, it is green! Don't ask Why!) The Wait can be long but it is
well worth it!

INTERESTING FACTS

During the Fury's premier season at Worlds of Fun, a raft tipped over during the ride. A man on the ride at the time broke his leg. Ever since then nothing like that has ever happened with the Fury of the Nile. Another interesting fact is that the year it opened, the ride had two waterfalls like the one at the end of the tunnel. It was located right under the Q-line bridge and was taken out later in the 1984 season. This is not to be confused with the hose they sometimes put in the same spot that works as a waterfall, the original actually had its own working water pump. Also contrary to popular belief the ambassadors do NOT control the gysers, they are on set timers!

EXPERIENCE THE FURY!

Atlast! I think the wait has ended! As I walk across the rotating loading dock of the Fury Of The Nile. This is my all time favorite ride at Worlds Of Fun so I am completely thrilled! As we first enter the main trough (which is about 10-15 feet wide) and then bounce against the cement side this ride on the Fury is officially started. As the giant raft starts to turn and head towards the waves I am jumping with excitement as we are thrown around by these white water rapids. Then the raft turns abruptly as I look back and immediatly make contact with a large wave that hits me in the face! Alright! I yell as if asking this ride if this Fury of the Nileis the best it can do. We are then tossed and sprayed repeatedly by a good 3 minutes of white water waves. As we bend a corner I take a glance over and see the Monsoon recking havic on another 20 riders, and then all of a sudden a five foot gyser erupts out of nowhere! That is the best part of the ride, the suspense you never know when a gyser will erupt or a large wave will come your way! I glance up at the guard shack and the ambassador smiles right back at us! I swear it seems like they control it! As we round another turn I am starting to think that the ride is getting a little to monotonous but then I look down and see the dark tunnel just ahead. Alright! the best part! This tunnel is home to the waves that make the fury great! As we enter into the churning dark tunnel we are literally tossed and drenched by 2 to 3 foot waves! I can't help but scream as the waves unknowingly slam down on me! As I look and see light ahead I think the end's near, but the fury isnt through yet as we are soaked by the pouring water fall at the end of the tunnel! As we climb the loading lift I am completly soaked but ready to run and wait in line again to ride this Fury!
