SKY HIGH/SKY HEIS

(1973 - 1987)

The Sky High or the Sky Heis is one of the most missed rides at Worlds Of Fun. It was an original addition to the park. In case you don't know, this is the ride that took you across the park in the air. Riding in cable cars on a 400 long foot gondola cable 70 feet in the air. It had two pick ups one in Americana and one in Scandinavia. The Americana red barn (which is still there) housed the gigantic pulley wheel for the Sky Hi/Ski Heis. The other pick-up was in Scandinavia, in what is now known as the Tivoli East. This part housed the main motor for the Sky High/Sky Heis. Tivoli East: Scandinavian Drop off for the Sky Heis
The Tivoli east, the Scandinavian drop off
for the Sky Heis.

The Sky High/Sky Heis were taken out in early 1987 because all but three of the cars were rusting out and Hunt Midwest didn't want to spend the money to keep up on its maintnance.

This ride has an interesting story behind it. On the day after Memorial day 1977 (it was raining Memorial Day) King Arthur The Lion (Arthur Duchek) an aerial stunt performer tight rope walked across the 70 foot high 400 foot long gondola cable of this ride. He amazingly achieved this feat in 25 mph winds!
