VIKING VOYAGER

(1973 - PRESENT)

The Voyagers Main Lift Hill

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Viking Voyager is an original park ride added in 1973. It is a water flume ride or log ride in Viking shaped boats that was built by Arrow Development Company in Mountain View California. This ride is an all time favorite of Worlds Of Fun and the wait can sometimes be long. It should be noted that this is a form of water roller coaster with a final plunge of forty feet. But, this ride is for all ages.

EXPERIENCE THE VOYAGER

As we climb into the wet incrusted voyager boats the ambassador instructs us not to rock the boat. Oh, but that's the best part! As this original ride to Worlds Of Fun literally gets started with a bang (from the breaks that never seem to work well) we start on what should be just a leisurely float around the first turn. Of course me and my party have to make our own fun. So of course we rock the boat. As we skim over the small crest it does a fast speed up with a little bit of a rush at the bottom which makes it seem for one fleeting moment like the Fury of the Nile. After that experience there is a constant jaring of the water but overall a nice ride. Splash Down! Around the corner and then we come face to face with the lift hill. Quite possibly the most menacing non roller coaster lift hill I have ever come in contact with. The Viking Voyager rattles and shakes its way as it pulls us slowly up. I look down as I see the layers and layers of hats that line the ground and that mysterious blue water lagoon below. As I look up I see the frowning reflection of the lift hill manager staring down at me. As I crest the lift all he can do is smile as I fly down the hill with barely time to scream. Its fast and its fun as the water rises up in 3 feet arches around us and splashes down drenching us. I then jump out of the boat and run back into the long line again.

INTERESTING FACTS

Well, since I worked on this ride I could tell several storys but one of my favorites is the chronic bubble bath. I guess that every morning somebody got a kick out of filling the trough of the Voyager up with soap and of course when we turned the water on we ended up with three feet bubbles. Which was quite humorous. But try explaining that to about 20 guests who want to ride the Voyager!
