UNIQUE FEATURES

Besides being a Favorite of Many Worlds of Fun guests, the Zambezi Zinger had several unique features. First of all, propably the Zinger's most popular feature, was the Long, Dark, Tunnel that concluded the ride. Another unique feature of this Speed Racer, was its lift hill. The lift hill was unique for two reasons. First of all, it was powered by an electric motor; unlike most coasters today having chain lift hills. The Second unique Characteristic of the Zinger's lift hill is that it was spiral. The train was pulled up a in corkscrew fashion.

INTERESTING FACTS

The Zambezi Zinger was the VERY First REAL Coaster at Worlds of Fun, (The Shushboomer Doesn't Count). It opened in 1973 when the park first opened. The Zinger stood for 25 years at Worlds of Fun, making it the Longest standing coaster in WOF's 26 year history. No other coaster at WOF is even close to competing to how long the Zinger stood. The only coaster that comes close is the Orient Express, standing for 18 years. One final interesting fact about this coaster is that is was one of only two Speed Racers in existence in 1997, the other at Six Flags Great America (Whizzer).

ZINGER'S HISTORY

The Zinger opened in 1973. Ever since the coaster opened, many people have ridden it and loved it. For most people, the Zinger was the very first coaster that they have ridden, because it was the calmest of all WOF's coasters. It had a few flaws every once in a while. Sometimes the brakes didn't work properly and one car would crash Zambezi Zingerinto another car that would be loading in the station. A ride on the Zinger would be just as fun now as it was in '73. In 1995 the Zinger was refitted with new cars, changing the color from white to a light green color, almost the color of the font on this page. In the '90's the Zinger was starting to meet it's match. Finally, at the end of the 1997 season, the Zinger was removed. Worlds of Fun decided not to continue to pay $2 million in maintenance costs. After its removal, we received MANY emails about how sad it was to see the Zinger go. The Zambezi Zinger will be missed by Many.

EXPERIENCE THE ZINGER

Out of the station I go and around to the Lift hill of this Original WOF Coaster. I reach the lift hill and hear the humming of the electric motor that lifts the train to the summit of the Zinger. The train spirals around several times and finally reaches the top. DOWN I GOOOOOO!!!!! Zippin' through Africa on a Green and Black train. The dense trees flash by and sometimes hit me as I scream my way through the African forest. Around and around Riders as they Exit the famous Tunnel I go, under and over where I just was, with the person behind me screaming in my ear! "This is Great!" Around one more turn and down into the bowls of Africa.... into the Zingers infamous tunnel I go. Everyone is screaming their lungs out as we go through the long dark tunnel with a mysterious smell lurking in the air. "There is Light ahead" I noticed. I then streaked out of the noisy tunnel and to a complete stop. I flew out of my seat and the person behind me was in the floor. Slowly, the train pulled back into the bungalo looking station. This is one classic coaster that will be missed by many especially me!
